Reading my poem "Nightlife"
Badilsha Poetry Exchange PodcastsI was a student at Essex when I wrote this, majoring in Russian Literature: perhaps this short poem shows some influence of the dark interiors of Dostoyevski's imagination with its religious undertones.

Off-the-Wall PoetryOff-the-Wall poetry readings were started at "Off Moroka - Cafe Africaine" in Adderley Street near Parliament by the late Richard Ishmail. When the cafe closed, it moved to "A Touch of Madness" in Obz, where it's been since about 2003. There were two other monthly venues: one at Kalk Bay Books and the other in Kommetjie. There have been gigs in Fish Hoek, Stellenbosch, Somerset West, Franschhoek Literary Festival, etc. It's become famous and was, for a time, probably the only regular weekly poetry reading in the country.
